Malta Guinness WPL: Hasaacas Ladies face off with Army Ladies in top of the table clash – Southern Zone Preview
Former Champions Hasaacas Ladies and new entrants Army Ladies are fighting for the top spot in a two horse race in the Southern Zone. The Army lads have given the Sekondi giants one of the toughest times in the history of the Women’s Premier League following a neck to neck contest that has travelled the entire season. With only three games left to bring down the curtains, Hasaacas Ladies hold a three point lead going into Matchday 15. The two teams clash in the top of the pack at the Sekondi Gyandu Park this weekend.
Here is a Preview of matches in the Southern Zone:
FAITH LADIES VRS POLICE LADIES
Dansoman-based Faith Ladies will take on Police Ladies at the Carl Reindorf Park. It would be an eye-watching game for two sides that are poised for the three points with ONLY three matches to end the season. Between the two, Faith Ladies have an upper hand over the visitors, however, Police Ladies could also pull a shock on the Super Cup champions after beating Ladystrikers 5-2 last weekend. Police Ladies sits in seventh place with 17 points from 14 games, whiles Faith Ladies occupy the third position with 24 points. Faith Ladies cruised over Police Ladies 3-2 in the first round of the season. The likes of Maafia Nyame and Jennifer Kankam aim to star for the home side while Jane Ayieyam, who got a hat trick last weekend, would be the one to watch in this encounter.
HASAAACS LADIES VRS ARMY LADIES
League leaders, Hasaacas Ladies will host Army Ladies at the Gyandu Park in Sekondi on Saturday. With three points separating them, it will be a tough test for both sides as they eye a win to boost their title push. Hasaacas Ladies lost 1-0 in the first round and this would be a perfect time to seek revenge and extend their lead at the top of the table whilst Army Ladies hope to close in on at the top. Hasaacas Ladies go into the game buoyed by the 4-1 win against Ridge City in Accra while Army Ladies seek to bounce back to winning ways after going three games without a win. The Army lads have yet to win a Premier League match since February 24, when they beat Thunder Queens 2-0 at the Presec Park. This encounter will be an interesting one as the visitors would hope to cause an upset. The Doo Ladies on the other hand will try to maintain their home form and composure to add to their points tally in the League log.
SOCCER INTELLECTUALS VRS RIDGE CITY
Soccer Intellectuals will host bottom placed Ridge City at the Ajumako Eduyaw Assasan Park on Saturday. The host inflicted a painful 1-0 defeat on Thunder Queens on the road whereas their guests suffered 1-4 defeat at the hands of leaders, Hasaacas Ladies in their last game. The win over Thunder Queens would serve as a tonic to the host as they go all out to secure the maximum points from the visitors who are winless in 14 League games. A win for Soccer Intellectuals would boost their relegation fight.
LADYSTRIKERS VRS THUNDERQUEENS
Relegation Zone duo Ladystrikers and Thunder Queens will square off at the Robert Mensah Stadium as the battle for survival in the top flight intensifies. Both clubs have accumulated 14 points each and lie 8th and 9th in the log after 14 games. Ladystrikers are winless in their last three games. Thunder Queens on the other hand lost their last game at home to Soccer Intellectuals and another defeat will deepen their woes in the relegation dogfight.
BERRY LADIES VRS ESSIAM SOCRATES LADIES
Berry Ladies and debutants Essiam Socrates will slug things out at the Madina Astro turf in Accra. Berry Ladies come into this fixture having picked all maximum points against in-form Army Ladies and lie 5th with 21 points. Essiam Socrates also shared the spoils at home to Faith Ladies and are 4th with 22 points. Both teams are eyeing a top four finish and this crucial encounter will be keen to define their season with three matches to go.
