Southern Zone leaders, Berry Ladies, for the first time this season dropped points at home after being held 2-2 by Lady Strikers on match day six of the Women’s Premier League at the Madina Zorak Park.

The leaders went into the game with a 100% record, having won all five opening games in the season. Cynthia Aboagye Yiadom drilled home a long-range effort in the 14th minute to make to give them a 1-0 lead. But that goal was cancelled before the break. Lady Strikers forward, Suzzy Dede Teye came close to getting her name on the scoresheet but her effort went over the bar.

Berry Ladies continued to dominate possession and kept pressing for an assuring goal but the visitors put in a brave fight to stop them. In the 37th minute, Gladys Amfobea weaved her way through the Berry Ladies defence and slotted home to make it 1-1.

Just before half time, Suzzy Dede Teye made amends for her earlier miss and scored for Lady Strikers to make it 2-1.

The first half ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

After recess, Berry Ladies started on the front foot as Felicity Asante made it 2-2 in the 50th minute.

From that point, there was a sea of misses from both sides. Felicity Asante had a glorious opportunity to make it 3-2 the player of the month for January, but missed in the 68th minute.

She was then presented with another opportunity in the 76th minute when Berry Ladies were awarded a penalty but she missed.

Grace Adams had a sitter to kill the game in the 80th minute but she missed.

Berry Ladies coach Mercy Tagoe took off an injured Felicity Asante and brought on Eugenia Korkor Tetteh but didn’t impact on the scoreline as the game ended 2-2.

Constance Agyemang of Berry Ladies won the Nasco Player of the Match.
