Medeama SC annihilate Accra Hearts of Oak to capture top spot

Medeama SC moved to the top of the betPawa Premier League table after beating Accra Hearts of Oak 5-1 at the Accra Sports stadium on Sunday. The Tarkwa lads went into the game looking to leapfrog Aduana FC after their 3-0 loss to Accra Lions on Saturday.

Derrick Fordjour scored in the 16th minute to give Medeama SC a well-deserved lead having controlled the affairs from the blast of the whistle.

Ibrahim Salifu converted from the spot on the half hour mark to give Accra Hearts of Oak a lifeline but Medeama SC struck again inside 34 minutes to restore their advantage.

Jonathan Sowah extended the lead for the visitors in the 42nd minute as Medeama SC went into the break with a 3-1 lead.

The mauves and yellows showed maturity in the second half as they looked very and composed – in their bid to stop Hearts of Oak from coming back into the game. The visitors grabbed another goal through Jonathan Sowah – his second of the game and fourth for Medeama SC in the 84th minute.

The goal put the game beyond the reach of Hearts of Oak as the evergreen Akwasi Donsu put the icing on the cake in the 88th minute to wrap things up for the mauves and yellows who moves to the top of the League log with 53 points – one point ahead of two-time champions Aduana FC who lost 3-0 to Accra lions on Saturday.

 

Dreams FC built on their MTN FA Cup semifinal success as they scored two first half goals to beat Berekum Chelsea 2-0 at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu. Ali Huzaif put Dreams FC in front in the 8th minute before Sylvester Simba added to the tally 10 minutes later.

The win takes the Still Believe lads to 10th with 41 points as Berekum Chelsea remain in fourth place with 46 points.

King Faisal imploded yet again as they fell 2-0 to FC Samartex 1996 at the Dr. Kwame Kyei sports complex on Sunday.

Evans Osei Wusu and Emmanuel Keyekeh scored late in the game to break the hearts of the home fans. With the game heading to a goalless draw Evans Osei Wusu struck a decisive blow inside 91 minutes as his powerful shot zoomed into the net for the opener before Emmanuel Keyekeh sealed victory in the 99th minute mark.

The result mean King Faisal remain in the bottom three with three points from safety as FC Samartex move up to 6th place in the League log.

At the CAM Park – Karela United were held 0-0 by Accra Great Olympics in a very close contest. The result leaves Great Olympics in 16th place while Karela United remain in 12th place with three matches to end the season.

Bibiani Gold Stars struck gold at DUN’s Park as Abednego Tetteh hit a brace against Tamale City to claim a 2-0 home victory. Both teams played a very close game and ended the first half without scoring but the home side started the second half in a ferocious manner and got rewarded with a penalty that was expertly converted by Tetteh in the 47th minute.

Tamale City upped their game looking for the equalizer but their efforts came to nought as Tetteh added the second goal in the 80th minute to increase his tally to 14 goals.

Bibiani Gold Stars have amassed 45 points and sit in 5th place in the Premier League log with three matches to end the season.

Tamale City are not far from danger as they occupy the 15th spot in the League with 39 points – level on points with 16th placed Accra Great Olympics.
