John Mensah made in English bow for Sunderland in their 4-1 win over Hull City on Saturday.
Having arrived only on Wednesday after the international break, Mensah’s first Premier League start came three days later when he came on as a second half substitute.
The Ghanaian defender who is a season-long loan from French side, Lyon was sent into action in the 74th minute as replacement for the injured Phillip Bardsley.
And Mensah helped the Black Cats preserve their 4-1 lead at the Stadium of Lights.
