The match of the tournament produced a thrilling finish as an injury-time equalizer and a 4-2 penalty shootout win swept Ghana past South Africa to land gold at the 2011 All Africa Games men's competition.
Ahmed Adams scored the decisive kick to deny South Africa a second penalty success at the competition after winning their semi-final clash on penalties.
Ghana's Black Meteors after drawing 1-1 in regulation time nicked victory in the penalty lottery to win their first gold in the football competition, having won bronze in the 2003 edition.
Having played 85 minutes in the frenetic final with no goal, the Young Bafana stunned Ghana in the 86th minute and seemed to be coasting to winning gold after Eugene scored.
The Black Meteors never gave up against a side who had beaten them in the group stages.
A last-gasp attempt at goal in the 92nd minute earned Ghana a penalty when Gilbert Fiamenyo was fouled in the box.
Captain Mahatma Otoo stepped up to convert the spot kick, his fourth goal at the competition, which sent the game into extra time.
Both sides played out the last 30 minutes of extra time, producing no goals to set up the penalty shootout.
Each team converted their opening kicks as Otoo started off for Ghana. Then, South Africa missed their second kick before goalkeeper Daniel Agyei converted for the Black Meteors.
South Africa scored their third kick only for Fiamenyo to hit target in Ghana's third attempt from the spot before Agyei saved the decisive kick from Eugene, South Africa’s fourth kick.
At 3-2, Ahmed Adams then fired in to make it 4-2 for Ghana to send the Black Meteors camp into ecstasy.
