There are only three slots available for the taking in the men’s Olympic qualifying campaign which would ensure qualification to the Beijing Olympic Games and Ghana are bent on landing one.
However, that job would not come easy as the Black Meteors are back on the road looking for their first win in the three-team group which also has Nigeria and South Africa competing for the sole slot.
Though the group initially was four, Ethiopia pulled out citing their millennium celebrations leaving the three countries to slug it out for the price of qualifying for the 2008 games in what has been “Group of Death”.
The Black Meteors, who lost their first game away to Nigeria are again playing away, this time in South Africa where they would be looking to pick the spoils at the Potchefstroom's Olen Park on Saturday when they line up against the Amaglug-glug.
Ghana needs that important win to keep hope alive while South Africa would be seeking to avoid dropping vital points especially at home after drawing with Nigeria in their own backyard.
That important win for Ghana would certainly bring the Amaglug-glug’s qualifying hopes crashing and throw the group open.
And Ghana coach, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio is confident of placing the team’s qualifying campaign in a safer mode with a win which would still not threaten Nigeria’s top position on the table, at least for now.
The experienced technical brain’s team has been bolstered with enough striking options as Jones Attuquayefio can count on Asamoah Gyan and Prince Tagoe.
After a great display the warmer against local side, Asante Kotoko, the Black Meteors look set for Saturday’s game.
Cecil Jones Attuquayefio will be hoping the pressure on Steve Komphela’s team will be to his side's advantage at the Olen Park.
Yet still, the Ghana coach can count on his team pulling a win on Saturday.
