Central Region and Brong Ahafo Region produced commanding performances to record emphatic victories in Saturday’s opening two Matchday Four Group B fixtures of the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Central Region continued their impressive resurgence with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Upper East Region, inspired by another outstanding performance from youngster Desmond Korlettey.
Korlettey was once again the driving force behind Central Region’s dominant display, scoring twice and earning the Most Valuable Player accolade as his side secured another important victory in the competition. The latest honour marks his third MVP award of the championship.
After a dominant first-half display, Central Region continued to press for more goals, with Korlettey doubling his personal tally in the 59th minute.
The goals continued to flow in the closing stages of the contest. Orlando Baffoe added the third goal in the 83rd minute, before Godfred Owusu completed the emphatic victory three minutes later to seal a memorable 4-0 triumph.
Korlettey’s brace and all-round contribution earned him another deserved MVP award as Central Region continued to build momentum in the championship.
In the second Group B fixture of the day, Brong Ahafo Region delivered another statement performance, thrashing Greater Accra Region 5-1 to continue their impressive run in the youth championship.
The match was highlighted by a superb performance from Osafo Antwi, who inspired Brong Ahafo Region with a brace and a commanding display that earned him the Most Valuable Player award.
Antwi, who previously featured for Ghana’s U-20 national team during the WAFU B U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire, once again demonstrated his quality.
Brong Ahafo made a blistering start, with Bright Ofosu Amankwah opening the scoring in the eighth minute.
Antwi struck again from the penalty spot in the 35th minute to make it 3-0 and complete his brace.
Greater Accra’s difficult afternoon became even tougher just before the break when Bright Ofosu Amankwah added his second goal of the match in first-half stoppage time (45+2) to send Brong Ahafo into the interval with a commanding 4-0 advantage.
The championship remains an important platform for some of Ghana’s brightest young footballers to develop their technical and tactical abilities while gaining valuable competitive experience that can contribute significantly to their growth and future careers.
