Ghana Football Association President reminds footballers that their determination to perform will always be recognized in the sport as the GFA pledges its support to the maiden National Players Awards.
Kwesi Nyantakyi speaking at the launch of the awards over the weekend reiterated the GFA's commitment to recognize contributions made by past players towards the development of Ghana football.
The annual initiative seeks to recognize and honor the contribution of individuals who donned the national jersey with distinction.
“We believe that if such an awards ceremony is organized, it even motivates the current crop to give off their best because they know they will be acknowledged,” GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi said on Saturday.
“We (the GFA) will support this initiative to ensure it succeeds for the benefit of all.”
Goalkeeper Richard Kingson has been nominated for two categories at the National Player Awards.
The Awards are for outstanding players during the 2010/2011 season, both locally and internationally.
Kingson was nominated for the Most Outstanding Player and Most Dedicated Player Awards in the Black Stars, by dint of his active participation in the last two World Cups and the 2008 and 2010 African Nations Cup tournaments.
Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan were also nominated for the Most Outstanding player category in the Black Stars .
A seven-member panel headed by former GFA chairman Ben Kuofie will announce the winners of the various categories on June 22 at the awards gala.
