Kwesi Nyantakyi today received backing for his campaign to secure a seat on Caf's Executive Committee with elections set for next month.

The Gambian FA President Seedy Kinteh says his Ghanaian counterpart would be the popular choice to represent Western Zone B on the Confederation of African Football - CAF - Executive Committee.

Kinteh, who together with other African football chiefs are in Ghana for Wednesday's commissioning of the Fifa Goal III Project explains that Nyantakyi's works over the years makes his candidature a good choice.

“He is very popular at Caf and Ghanaians will know that by what happens in Khartoum. I have known him since 2005 and this man (Nyantakyi) deserves whatever he wishes on the continent," Kinteh said on Monday.

“Kwesi has been successful by qualifying the country to two successive World Cup finals and worked very hard for it so we need to encourage this humble and down-to-earth man in football.”

Nyantakyi would come up against representatives from Benin, Niger and Togo for the single slot with the elections taking place at the Caf 33rd Ordinary General Assembly on 23 February, 2011 in Sudan.

Members on the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association at its meeting on July 8, 2010 unanimously agreed to back the nomination of Kwesi Nyantakyi for the position during the continent’s governing body’s elections.
