Kwesi Nyantakyi was honoured for his contribution to the development of football in Ghana and Africa at a ceremony on Sunday.

At an Easter festival dominated by the chiefs and people of Kwaso in the Ashanti Region and also attended by members of the football fraternity, the Ghana Football President received a plaque from Nana Nketia Boampong II, the Chief of Kwaso.

Also, a citation was read by the Chief extolling Kwesi Nyantakyi's - a native of Kwaso - positive contribution to the game's development over the past decade.

Joined by his wife, Nyantakyi was later decorated by the Chief at the durbar held in his honour.

Nana Nketia Boampong II said the GFA President’s remarkable tenure as the head of Ghana football is encouraging the youth in the town to aspire to greater heights.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, also a CAF Executive Committee member said it was a proud moment for him, his family and the Ghana football fraternity.

"I'm absolutely delighted, and it's a proud moment," he said.

"It's a recognition for what has come before and an encouragement for us in Ghana football to do better."

Nyantakyi's administration has witnessed one of Ghana's best sporting moments, a reign that has brought the country honour at both continental and world levels.

He led Ghana to their first two World Cup appearances and the Black Stars thrilled the world with their performances.

He was also in charge when the Black Satellites became the first African country to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2009 in Egypt.
