Kwesi Nyantakyi joined a host of former greats in Ghana football in Accra to discuss football and other key matters.

During the day's interactive session, the Ghana Football Association President, who was visiting to check up on the condition of Alhaji Shitu Mouda, a former player who has gone blind, took in questions ranging from the welfare of the retired players, state of the game and development of youth football.

The GFA President made a cash donation to Alhaji Shitu Mouda at the meeting which was also attended by Mohammed Polo and Bashiru Gambo.

The GFA President had much to say at Thursday's meeting as he responded to all questions and suggested an innovative way of raising resources to help support some of the retired players.

"It's a delight for me to be here. We all come from different backgrounds but football is a game which unites everybody no matter where you are coming from.

"It unites various races and religion and also brings different generations together," Kwesi Nyantakyi said at the meeting in Zagbon Zongo, in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.

And Nyantakyi's own practical ideas about helping to support the retired players financially was to levy a percentage of prices at gates which will be channeled into a special fund.

"There is life for everyone after football. We need to ensure that the sacrifices of such wonderful men who have served the country and their clubs with honour and dedication is always appreciated.

"I suggest a special levy to be placed on sections of the stands at the stadiums which will be used purposely for the welfare of retired players in the country."

"The GFA will always try to help but it is more imperative that there is one union for every retired player to belong to. It makes it easier formulating programmes to their benefit. I urge all retired players to close their ranks and support each other," the GFA President said.
