On this day in 1993: The Ghana Football Association commenced the first professional football league in the country.
It was a Sunday on 19th December, 1993, when the Ghana Premier League for the very first time was played.
And it took place in 6 league centres across the country.
Twelve teams (Hearts of Oak, Accra Great Olympics, Prampram Mighty Royals, Neoplan Star, Ghapoha, Afienya United, Okwawu United, Dawu Youngsters, Goldfields[AshantiGold], Ebusua Dwarfs, Asante Kotoko and Real Tamale United) took part in the maiden Premier League competition.
Goldfields[AshantiGold] won the first Premier League in Ghana.
