Pearlpia Ladies frustrated by Champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in Tamale – Northern Zone results
Champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies thrashed Pear Pia Ladies 2-0 on Matchday 16 of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.
Jennifer Owusuaa opened the scoring for the visitors in the 40th minute as the visitors started on the front foot – making life difficult for the host. In search of an equaliser, PearlPia Ladies brought in attacker Alimatu Mbamba to replace Bugre Memuna but that could not give them the needed push as the visitors smashed home the second goal through forward Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah in the 61st minute.
PearPia Ladies improved in the closing stagrs of proceedings but saw their efforts come to naught as Ampem Darkoa Ladies held on for their 11th win of the season. The defeat puts the PearlPia Ladies at risk of being relegated whilst Ampem Darkoa Ladies soldier on in their quest for a third successive title.
In Kumasi - The derby between Kumasi Sports Academy and Ashtown Ladies lived up to the billing as Kumasi Sports Academy gained the bragging rights over their city rivals. Ashtown Ladies started on a brighter note as they were the better side in the early minutes of an intense game. But Sandra Osei Nyarko broke the deadlock for Kumasi Sports Academy right before the first half whistle. Back from the break, both coaches brought on fresh legs and made some tactical variations but it went in favor of the home team.
Elizabeth Adoma and Getrude Amoafo scored in the 80th and 90th minutes to take the game beyond Ashtown Ladies. The game ended 3-0 in favor of Kumasi Sports Academy who needed the points to boost their survival chances in the Northern Zone.
Meanwhile, debutants, Fosu Royal Ladies and Prisons Ladies played out a 1:1 draw at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman. Prisons Ladies took the lead through Rita Okyere in the 21st minute before Patience Agyei scored the equalizer for the host.
The second half started with Fosu Royal Ladies on the front foot, making incursions in the penalty area of Prisons Ladies but their efforts were thwarted by the defense of Prisons Ladies as the contest ended 1-1.
