Accra Hearts of Oak will look to return to winning ways when they host relegation-threatened Karela United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

After a promising run that saw the Phobians rise into the Premier League’s top four during February and March, their campaign has recently stalled. Aboubakar Ouattara’s men have managed just one win in their last five league matches (D2, L2), dropping to 7th place on the table with 41 points. Despite their struggles, Hearts boast one of the league’s best defensive records, conceding just 17 goals while scoring 22.

At home, the Phobians have been inconsistent, with three wins and two defeats in their last five matches. However, history is on their side — Hearts have never lost at home to Karela United in the league since 2020, a record they’ll be eager to preserve and build on this Sunday.

Karela United find themselves deep in relegation trouble. A 2-0 loss to defending champions FC Samartex 1996 on Wednesday dropped them into 16th place with 28 points from 27 matches. Offensively, they’ve struggled all season, scoring just 17 goals — the joint-lowest tally in the league — while conceding 22.

Nurudeen Amadu’s side also has one of the league’s poorest away records and is winless in their last five matches on the road (D1, L4). A visit to the capital to face Hearts of Oak presents a daunting task, but Karela will be hoping to defy the odds and pick up a much-needed result.

The head-to-head record at the Accra Sports Stadium slightly favors the hosts. In their four league meetings at the venue since the 2020/21 season, Hearts of Oak have won once and drawn the other three. After three consecutive draws — goalless in 2020/21 and 2022/23, and 1-1 in 2021/22 — Hearts finally claimed a 3-1 victory over Karela last season.

15:00 Nations FC vs Asante Kotoko - Dr Kwame Sports Complex

Nations FC will aim to continue their remarkable rise in the Premier League when they welcome giants Asante Kotoko to the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

The Abrankese-based side has been one of the league’s standout performers this season and currently sit second on the table with 48 points — just two behind leaders Gold Stars FC. Under the guidance of Kasim Mingle Ocansey, Nations FC have put together an impressive run of form, winning four and drawing one of their last five league matches. They boast the second highest goal tally (30) and the best defensive record in the league, having conceded only 14 goals.

At home, Nations FC have been solid, ranked among the league’s top ten performers on home turf. Back-to-back home wins over Karela United and Dreams FC have built momentum, and the Abrankese faithful will be hoping to see their team secure a third straight home victory for the first time this season.

Asante Kotoko, meanwhile, arrive in Abrankese looking to bounce back after their nine-game unbeaten run came to a crashing halt in midweek, following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Accra Lions. That result saw Prosper Narteh Ogum’s men slip to third place on the table with 47 points. Despite the setback, Kotoko remain a serious title contender, having scored 28 goals and conceded 19 so far this season.

The Porcupine Warriors have been fairly reliable away from home, ranking as the fifth-best traveling side in the league and suffering just four defeats on the road — among the fewest in the competition. They'll be desperate to return to winning ways and keep pace in the title race.

This will be just the second top-flight meeting between the two sides at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, with their only previous encounter ending in a thrilling 2-2 draw last season.

15:00 Bechem United vs Berekum Chelsea - Nana Gyeabour Park, Bechem

Bechem United will be aiming to bounce back from a rare home defeat when they host regional rivals Berekum Chelsea at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Sunday in a highly anticipated Bono derby in the Premier League.

The Hunters, who suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Gold Stars FC last Wednesday, will be determined to return to winning ways after a spirited yet fruitless performance. That defeat marked their first at home this season, and they now sit 8th on the league table with 40 points. Despite recent struggles (W1, D1, L3 in their last five matches), Bechem United boast one of the strongest home records in the league and will look to capitalize on that advantage in the derby.

Historically, Bechem United have had the upper hand against Berekum Chelsea at home. Since the 2020/21 season, the two teams have met four times at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in league competition, with Bechem winning three and drawing one. They secured 2-0 victories in the 2020/21, 2022/23, and 2023/24 seasons, with a 1-1 draw recorded in 2021/22.

With Bechem United looking to maintain their unbeaten home record against Chelsea and reclaim momentum in the league, and Berekum Chelsea desperate to halt their away-day woes, Sunday’s encounter promises to be a fiercely contested derby with pride and crucial points on the line.

15: 00 Basake Holy Stars vs Legon Cities - AAK II Sports Arena

Basake Holy Stars will look to extend their strong home form when they welcome relegation-threatened Legon Cities to the Ampain AAK II Sports Arena on Sunday in a Premier League showdown on Sunday.

The Aiyinase-based side continued their impressive run at home with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Vision FC on Wednesday. Despite their recent struggles on the road, that win marked their eighth home triumph of the campaign. Currently 12th on the league table with 33 points, Abdul Gazale’s men have proven dangerous in attack, having scored 29 goals—third highest in the league—while also conceding 29. Ranked as the seventh best home side, the Holy Stars will be eager to capitalize on home advantage once again and push further up the standings.

Legon Cities find themselves in dire straits. The Royals are entrenched in the relegation zone at 17th with 25 points from 27 matches. Their recent form offers little encouragement, managing just one win in their last five matches (D1, L3). Worryingly, they’ve conceded a league-high 36 goals while scoring just 21.

Their away record is even more alarming. Legon Cities remain the only team in the league yet to register a single win on the road this season, picking up just two points from 13 away games (D2, L11). As the second worst-performing away team, their task on Sunday appears daunting.

Basake Holy Stars are playing Legon Cities at home in the league for the first time since the Aiyinase lads gained promotion into the Premier League this season.

15:00 Dreams FC vs Vision FC - Tuba Astro Turf

Dreams FC will aim to return to winning ways when they host Premier League newcomers Vision FC at the Tuba Astro Turf on Sunday, April 20, 2025, in a crucial matchday 28 fixture.

The Believers have endured a dip in form following back-to-back defeats to Medeama SC and Nations FC, but still remain 10th on the league table with 36 points. Despite their recent stumbles, Abdul Karim Zito’s men have shown resilience at home—going unbeaten in their last five matches and keeping four clean sheets during that run. With one of the league's strongest home defensive records, Dreams FC will look to build on that foundation and secure all three points.

With just 17 goals scored all season, they currently share the unwanted record of being the joint lowest scorers in the league. However, their defensive solidity—having conceded only 22 goals—continues to keep them competitive.

Vision FC arrive in Tuba seeking consistency as they battle to stay above the relegation scrap. The Tema-based side has managed one win, two draws, and two losses in their last five matches. Currently 14th in the standings with 29 points from 27 games, Vision FC have struggled defensively, conceding 30 goals—the second most in the league.

This will be the first-ever home league meeting between Dreams FC and Vision FC, with the latter only making their debut top-flight appearance this season.

15: 00 Heart of Lions vs Accra Lions - Kpando Stadium

Accra Lions travel to the Kpando Stadium to battle Heart of Lions on Sunday in the Premier League.

Heart of Lions ended their three-game winless run with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Medeama SC last time out (W2, D1, L2), that win have stretch their home victories to nine. Lions have moved to the fourth position in the league table with 44 points, having scored 27 and conceded the fourth least goals (18). Bashir K. Hayford’s men are the fifth best home performers in the league and will aim to snatch all the spoils on Sunday.

Accra Lions stunned Asante Kotoko 3-0 with a vintage home performance at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday. The win has relieved the pressure off Coach Reiner Kraft and lifting Lions to the 15th position in the table with 29 points after 27 matches. Lions head into this fixture as the fifth weakest away performers in the league currently and will yearn for their second win away from home on Sunday when they trip to Kpando.

Heart of Lions have played Accra Lions once at home in the league since the Kpando lads gained promotion back into the Premier League last season with the game ending in a 2-0 victory for Heart of Lions.

Young Apostles vs FC Samartex 1996

Young Apostles welcome defending league champions FC Samartex 1996 to the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Sunday in what promises to be a fiercely contested Premier League fixture.

The Wenchi-based side, making their debut appearance in Ghana’s top flight this season, have had a mixed run of form in recent weeks. They’ve secured just one win in their last five league outings (D2, L2), and currently sit 13th on the table with 33 points from 27 matches. Despite their struggles in front of goal—having scored only 18 times, the second joint least in the league—the Apostles have proven tough to beat at home.

They head into the clash unbeaten in their last five home games (W3, D2), with their most notable victory coming in a 2-1 win over Berekum Chelsea. Ranked as the 10th best home side in the league, Young Apostles will be looking to draw strength from their home crowd and build on that momentum.

Standing in their way are FC Samartex 1996, who have found renewed form in recent weeks. The reigning champions have picked up three wins in their last five games (D1, L1) to climb to 6th place with 41 points. Their defensive discipline remains a hallmark of their campaign, having conceded just 16 goals—the second fewest in the league—while scoring 24.

Christopher Ennin’s Timber giants have also been impressive on the road, ranking as the fourth best away side with three wins, six draws, and four defeats from 13 matches. With the title race heating up, Samartex will be eager to maintain their momentum and stay in the hunt.

15: 00 Gold Stars FC vs Medeama SC - Duns Park, Bibiani

League leaders Gold Stars FC will aim to tighten their grip at the summit of the Premier League when they welcome Medeama SC to the Dun’s Park on Sunday in a highly anticipated matchday 28 fixture.

The Miners returned to the top of the table with a commanding 2-0 away victory over Bechem United last Wednesday, reaffirming their title credentials. With 50 points from 27 matches, Gold Stars FC have combined defensive solidity and consistent performances to climb above their rivals. They’ve scored 27 goals and conceded just 16—the second joint fewest in the league.

Crucially, Gold Stars remain the only unbeaten home side this season, boasting an imposing record of 10 wins and three draws from 13 matches. They head into the encounter as the league’s best home performers and will be eager to extend that unbeaten run and preserve their fortress at Dun’s Park.

Medeama are the league’s most prolific side with 31 goals scored, although they’ve also conceded 24 times. Under the guidance of Ibrahim Tanko, Medeama will be looking to produce a strong performance and close the gap on the top four.

The Mauve and Yellow have found it difficult to get results at Dun’s Park in recent years. Since the 2021/22 season, they’ve faced Gold Stars FC three times away in the league, failing to register a single victory. The Miners edged a 1-0 win in the 2021/22 campaign, settled for a 1-1 draw in 2022/23, and secured a convincing 2-0 victory last season.
