President John Mahama has once again hailed the Black Stars for their impressive performance at the 2015 African Cup of Nations held in Equatorial Guinea in January this year.
The senior national team, who finished as silver medalists at the tournament were given a rousing welcome at the Kotoka International Airport by the Vice President, government officials and many Ghanaian football fans.
They were also hosted at the Jubilee House by the President where he praised Coach Avram Grant and his squad for placing second.
And in his State of the Nation address read at the Parliament house in Accra on Thursday, President Mahama once again commended the team for putting the setbacks in Brazil behind them to win back the support of many Ghanaians.
“I wish to congratulate the Black Stars for their performance at 2015 AFCON.”
“Many Ghanaians had lost hope ahead of the tournament but the Black Stars gathered themselves together, rose from the ashes of Brazil 2014 and proved themselves at the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea”, the President said in his address.
He further urged on the Ghana Football Association to increase its support for the junior nationals to help them achieve the same feat as the Black Stars.
He however expressed concern about the local League and called on the GFA to improve its quality.
