The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, watched Tuesday's games in the ongoing KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, along with FIFA officials at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram.

The President was in the company of FIFA High Performance expert, Cayl Coetzee and FIFA Scout expert Laban Scott Libby, as they witnessed two entertaining Group A games involving Northern Region and Ashanti Region as well as Central and Brong Ahafo Regions.

Simeon-Okraku has placed youth football and the Catch Them Young Refereeing policy, among several inviting initiatives, at the centre of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) development strategy.

With funding from KGL Foundation over the past four years, the GFA has maintained its resolve and focus on identifying, developing and training young talented teenagers for Ghana's youth national teams.

The talent identification Championship, which is in its fourth year, has served as the platform for unearthing hidden talents for the next generation of football stars who will largely form the nucleus of the various youth national teams.

Ghana has a massive potential pool of talent from which to pick the very best fledgling talents. The sharpening of the GFA's focus on youth football has been hailed as a step in the right direction with KGL Foundation providing funding for the enterprise.

The ongoing KGL U17 Inter- Regional Colts Championship follows the successful conclusion of the maiden edition of the Elite Girls U15 Championship, similarly targeted at talent identification, training and development.

The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.

The 12-day Championship, runs till Thursday August 8, 2024.
