Preview: Amidaus plot another Kotoko defeat

Premier League football is back in the spotlight as the new season gets underway this weekend with one debutant aiming for an opening day surprise.

Though one game, the clash between Liberty Professionals and King Faisal gets the campaign off on Saturday, the bulk of the matches are scheduled for Sunday.

On the field on Sunday, Asante Kotoko kick off their title defence against newly-promoted Amidaus Professionals at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Even before Amidaus confirmed their place in the Glo Premier League, the then Division One side has experienced giant-killing feats.

Six months ago, they stunned Asante Kotoko in the FA Cup, winning their Round of 16 fixture 2-0.

And that defeat ended Kotoko's hopes of a double, having then wrapped up the league title. But on Sunday both sides clash again with either team keen of a good start.

Berekum Chelsea, after seeing their CAF Champions League semi-final hopes go up in flames when, will be chasing former glories as they bid to win the title back as they place their hopes in new signings Eric Bekoe, Latif Salifu and Sadick Adams following the departure of Emmanuel Clottey.

They continue with life under Hans Van dey Plyum against Heart of Lions at the Golden City Park.

AshantiGold who went close to claiming the title look to improve on their second place last season when they travel to face Real Tamale United at the Tamale Stadium.

At the Gyamfi Park, New Edubiase will host Medeama while Wa All Stars play Aduana Stars at the Wa Park.

Ebusua Dwarfs, still serving home suspension from last season will begin the season at the Len Clay Stadium against Berekum Arsenals.

On Wednesday, Tema Youth and Hearts of Oak will round up the opening day round of matches at the Tema Stadium.
