Milovan Rajevac has worked with a good number of strikers during his short period with Ghana but the Serbian is yet to discover his best pair upfront for the Black Stars.
The Ghana coach believes Asamoah Gyan’s return to match fitness after a long spell on the sidelines due to injury would bolster his striking options as the Black Stars build up for the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign later in March.
The Rennes player is expected to make his Black Stars comeback in next month’s international friendly against Egypt after having sat out for year due to injury.
Junior Agogo, Matthew Amoah, Prince Tagoe, Eric Bekoe and Samuel Yeboah have all taken turns to feature in the Serbians plans in the absence of the former Udinese player.
Milovan Rajevac, speaking to the GNA, says he expects Gyan to fight for a place in his team as Ghana prepares for the African Zone qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup and CAF Nations Cup.
"Asamoah was the first choice before his injury, and he must demonstrate that he merits a place in the first team."
And with Gyan making a return, Milovan Rajevac is happy with the expected level of competition for places in the Black Stars as he welcomes the options available to him in his search for the best striking pair.
"It is always best to have options in attack, which is a sign of a good team," he says.
The game against Egypt would be Gyan’s debut under Rajevac and also his first match after a year for Ghana since going out injured during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana, seeded, is placed in Group 4 after the African qualification for the 2010 World Cup and CAF Nations Cup draw was made last October.
The Black Stars are drawn with Benin, Mali and Sudan with matches scheduled for six weekends from March to November.
