RTU beat Hearts in Accra after 33 years

The Premiership bounced back in the New Year with the breaking of a 33 year-old jinx.

Real Tamale United struggling to avoid the drop recorded their first ever victory over Hearts of Oak at the Ohene Djan Stadium since their debut in the Premier League in 1978.

The Phobians fell to a second half goal by Sumaila Nyaya though RTU still find themselves amongst the bottom three. For Hearts, it was their seventh loss after 16 games and they are two points off the relegation zone.

Asante Kotoko got off their New Year campaign to a great start, beating All Stars 2-0 at the Wa Park.

Nathaniel Asamoah signed by Kotoko during the second transfer window from All Stars stunned his former side, scoring in either side of the half. Kotoko have now moved 8th on the standings and are 14 points adrift the top.

Leaders Chelsea needed an injury-time winner to claim a 2-1 victory over Mighty Jets at the Golden City Park to maintain a seven-point gap at the top.

Samuel Ato Ghansah on the stroke of regulation time canceled out Bismark Idan's opener for Chelsea which came through a spot kick. But the home side run away winners with Obed Owusu grabbing the winner with two minutes remaining in injury time.

New Edubiase still stay second after defeating Heart of Lions 2-1 at the Gyemfis Park.

Aduana Stars won 2-1 against Berekum Arsenals to claim the bragging rights of the derby clash at the Dormaa Park.

Alex Anim and Daniel Dankwa scored for Aduana as Nana Poku pulled one back for the Gunners.

Isaac Donkor handed Liberty Professionals a share of the spoils at the Robert Mensah Stadium where they drew 1-1 with Ebusua Dwarfs after captain Bismark Asiedu had put the home team in the lead.

Bottom side B.A. Stars beat AshantiGold 1-0 at the Sekondi Sports Stadium, their adopted grounds as they serve the first of two consecutive home match ban.

Substitute Joe Debrah scored the winner for the bottom side.

The final wrap of the match-day-16 fixtures saw Kessben FC play out a 2-2 draw with King Faisal at the Baba Yara Stadium in a late kick off game.

K. Baffour hit a brace for Faisal as new signings Louis Agyemang and Larbi Koomson scored for Kessben.
