UEFA has handed Russian side, Zenit St Petersburg a fine of €36,880 for the racial abuse targeted at Ghanaian player, Andre Ayew.

Ayew was a victim of racist chants during his French club Olympique Marseille's clash with Zenit last season in the Uefa Cup encounter on 12 March.

A UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body decision says the Russian club were fined for the racist conduct of their supporters at the match, as well as for the use of pyrotechnical devices and the displaying of a political banner by their fans.

The Russian side, who booked a place in the quarter-finals after winning the second leg against Marseille 2-0 in Russia on March 12, have three days to appeal, the UEFA spokesman added.
