Sellas Tetteh has claimed that his side’s success as Africa Youth Championships is a great triumph for Ghana football.
Ghana beat Cameroon 2-0 to win the African Youth Championships title in an entertaining final in Kigali on Sunday.
Ransford Osei scored in the 24th and 80th minutes to hand Ghana a third title success at this level.
The Black Satellites coach, who was delighted with the remarkable performance that saw his side beat the aggressive Cameroonians to the trophy, insists Ghana thoroughly deserved to be crowned winners as he spoke to KickOffGhana.com after the game.
“It’s a great feeling,” he said.
“For eight years we have not been to the U-20 so to return in this style is remarkable. At the moment we have made our impact and won. It’s gratifying to me that we did not just win but played beautiful football and that is what tournament means.”
Ghana came up against tough opposition but showed great technique to get the better off aggressive sides throughout the competition.
And Sellas preferred to dwell on his side’s performance throughout the two-week competition that ensured that Ghana finished unbeaten on their way to winning the title.
“I know Ghana will welcome us. We have entertained Africa with beautiful football, great technique and over all the best all round team. We deserved it seriously.”
