Soccer Intellectuals dump LadyStrikers on Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League final day
Two goals from Jennifer Adjei Mensah secured victory for Soccer Intellectuals over regional rivals Lady Strikers. Intellectuals fought fiercely from the blast of the whistle as they were in dire need of victory to avoid relegation. Jennifer Adjei Mensah broke the deadlock in the 31st minute before connecting brilliantly from Mary Awuah Boateng’s cross for the second goal in the 73rd minute. The host dominated both halves and could have scored more goals if they were purposeful upfront. Lady Strikers sat at the back and soaked pressure from their opponents but that didn’t deter Soccer Intellectuals from attacking as Jennifer Adjei Mensah made the difference.
In Accra - Jonina Ladies snatched all 3 points as they left it late to beat Army Ladies 1-0 at the Auntie Aku AstroTurf. In a very competitive game, both teams were eager for the opener but it was the home that got rewarded. Agnes Yeboah scored the match winner in the 83rd minute to give her side all the spoils.
Meanwhile former Champions, Hasaacas Ladies eased past Faith Ladies to take hold of the top spot in the Southern Zone. In what was a battle between the two top sides, Faith Ladies failed to make it count as they lost 3-0 to Hasaacas Ladies despite a beautiful display. Mukarama Abdulai converted from the spot in the 13th minute to give the away team an early lead as she later extended the lead for the “Doo Ladies “ in the 26th minute.
Faith Ladies fought harder in the second half but could not get the ball behind the net as Belinda Ofori increased the tally for Hasaacas Ladies in the 59th minute.
The former Champions will face off with reigning champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies (Northern Zone Champions) in the playoff final, scheduled for the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon on Saturday, June 8, 2024 to determine the winner of 2023/24 Malta Guinness women’s premier League.
