Sports Minister assures GFA of his support

The newly-appointed Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has vowed to work assiduously with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to help improve the fortunes of the game in the country.

Hon. Afriyie Ankrah made the promise during his first familiarization visit to the GFA headquarters in Accra on Monday to acquaint himself with the operations of the country’s football governing body.

The minister and his delegation were met on arrival by the President of the GFA Kwesi Nyantakyi, FA Vice President Fred Crentsil and some members of the executive committee of the GFA.

While acknowledging the immense efforts of the GFA at improving the sport in Ghana, Hon. Afriyie Ankrah pledged his ministry’s support for the FA and called for a stronger collaboration in a bid to develop all sectors of the game.

He revealed government’s willingness not only to support the Black Stars but to also help in developing the other national teams, women’s football and the local league.

On his part, GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi congratulated the minister on his appointment and further assured him that the GFA is fully committed to maintaining its good working relationship with the ministry to help further develop the game in the country.

The visit was Hon. Afriyie Ankrah’s first official visit to the GFA headquarters since being confirmed as the substantive Minister of Youth and Sports.
