Striking opportunities for fresh Stars

Ghana will be lining up new faces against Chile in today's friendly in Philadelphia as injuries and the need for new players presents six players a chance of international football.

Afriyie Acquah, Abdul Majeed Waris, Richard Mpong, Emmanuel Baffour, Dominic Oduro and Patrick Nyarko could all be making their senior debut at the PPL Park.

Nyarko and Majeed Waris were late replacements for the Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan as both have been withdrawn due to injury.

For the sextet, irrespective of the reasons behind their call ups, the chance to stake a claim for places in the national team will drive them to impress on their debut.

Obviously it will not be easy whatever team Ghana picks, but for the new members, settling in will be a first step at international level.

Also, the old members of the team will be playing to secure their long-term careers in the Black Stars.

Ghana will be seeking to turn around their fortunes in recent times following their semi-final exit at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

And a return to winning ways will present the new players with a real boost and a fresh start.
