Richard Kingson after keeping a clean sheet for Ghana in the four-nation mini tournament couldn't help Birmingham avoid defeat in the English premiership.
The Black Stars goalkeeper was handed his premiership debut in goal for the Blues but national teammate, Sulley Muntari spoiled Kingson's party when he opened the scoring for Portsmouth in Saturday's game.
Muntari's angled shot to the near post trickled in underneath keeper Kingson's body for the first goal in the 34th minute after the Blues keeper had put up some impressive saves.
With eight minutes to go, Niko Kranjcar's stunning late free-kick compounded Birmingham and Kingson's misery.
