Sulley Muntari says he would continue to remain loyal to Ghana despite concerns about his commitment to the Black Stars.

Muntari missed two of Ghana’s 2010 World Cup qualifying matches in the busy month of June due to injury but that excuse did not go down well with some sections of the local media who doubted the Inter Milan player’s reasons for absenting himself.

But Muntari has broken his silence as he opened up to the media over the issue about his loyalty to the national team.

“I played for about two months of the season with an injury and sometimes I will train once a week and play on the weekend or not train at all,” he said.

“When the season ended I did a test and was told to rest. I could not have decided all of a sudden not to play for the country again.”

The absence of Muntari and other players has seen the emergence of some young internationals which is expected to raise the level of competition for places in the team but Muntari says he welcomes it.

“If I am called up I will definitely come to play. There were a lot of rumours that was unfair but I got my breakthrough in my football career because of playing for Ghana and I am not about to turn my back on it all of a sudden,” Muntari added.
