H.E. John Mahama says football's power to unite people makes it imperative for there to be stronger ties between government and the Ghana Football Association to achieve a common goal.
The Ghanaian Vice President today joined the football family to inaugurate the Fifa Goal III Project - A multi-purpose dining and conference facility plus kitchen - at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The new facility was made possible through FIFA's Goal III funds with the GFA complementing the project which cost $425,000.
The latter part of the past year witnessed tensions between government and the FA which almost resulted in a FIFA ban over interferences though both sides have managed to rectify all issues.
However, the Vice President admits that irrespective of the feats chalked, the game needs the close collaboration of both sides to further develop.
"The Government of Ghana has no intention now or in the foreseeable future of interfering in the work of the GFA," H.E. John Mahama said his speech to the football family on Wednesday.
"Government appreciates the good work the GFA has done to develop football in Ghana and will continue to support the Association to discharge its responsibilities.
"Government recognizes the potency of football as the only one sport which unites us as a people and is always willing to partner the GFA and other stakeholders to support soccer attain its highest potential in the country."
Talk of Ghana's strides in infrastructural development cannot be completed without the role played by FIFA as the Vice President praised the soccer governing body for the confidence shown in the country.
"I would therefore like on the behalf of Government and the people of Ghana to thank FIFA for the confidence and good faith so far demonstrated towards Ghana through the construction of the three completed Goal Projects and the award of a fourth project which is yet to start. I believe that Ghana really deserves these projects which will go a long way to contribute enormously towards the achievements of some successes in the sport of football."
