FIFA Director of Member Associations for Africa Gelson Fernandes is calling on club owners, football investors and all stakeholders to work in harmony to make Ghana Football strong again. The former Switzerland International who led a FIFA delegation to Ghana was delivering an address at the Elective Congress of the Ghana Football Association in Tamale on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Gelson Fernandes believes a united football community will propel Ghana to the top echelons in world football.
‘’It is an honour to be here to assist this election process. And I am glad everything ended successfully’’ Fernandes said.
‘’I can see some emotions in the eyes of the President and it’s in order because football is about emotions. It’s about the willingness to support your kids, to support your country and the people. On behalf of FIFA, I say congratulations to you (President Kurt Okraku) and the new Executive Council’’
‘’Now we have some work to do. You are the delegates; you are the clubs, you are the owners and the stakeholders. We have the responsibility to make Ghana football great again. Ghana is a giant in African football and we all have a role to play in taking Ghana football back to the top''
The Ghana Football Association went to the polls on Thursday, October 5, 2023 to elect new Executives to steer affairs for the next four-years.
President Simeon-Okraku received massive endorsement from the delegates as he polled 117 of the total vote cast to retain his seat.
Dr. Gifty Oware Mensah, Dr. Ransford Abbey, former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah, Frederick Acheampong, Nana Sarfo Oduro, Kingsley Osei Bonsu, Mark Addo, Gideon Fosu and Eugene Nobel Amon Noel were also elected to serve on the Executive Council.
