Despite the Black Princesses' exit from the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia, coach Yussif Basigi remains optimistic about the future of Women's football. Ghana's team showed promise in the group stages, securing a 3-1 win over New Zealand, but unfortunately, defeats to Austria and Japan cut their campaign short.
Basigi's positive outlook suggests that the team's potential and talent will continue to grow and make an impact in the sport in the not too distant future.
''Unfortunately we won but we could not advance to the next stage but I made the girls aware that we have to go all out to redeem ourselves even though we would not be able to advance. We had to redeem ourselves so that we have a story to tell'' Basigi told the media after the game against New Zealand.
''The future for the team is to ensure that we groom a lot of the junior players to understand the DNA of Ghana football so that by the time they get to the Under 20 level, they will be able to take it easy up to the senior side''.
''This tournament has been an improved performance compared to the first time I came in 2018 but going forward, we still have a lot to do. The understanding of the defensive principle in our first two matches affected the team. If they had understood and applied with caution and discipline, I think we wouldn’t be conceding'' he added.
