There is plenty of action to look out for in the Southern Zone of the Women’s Premier League on match week 8 as Hasaacas Ladies journeys to the Adu Yaw Assasan Park to play against Soccer Intellectuals.
Here is what week 8 has in store in this quick preview of the Southern Zone.
IMMIGRATION LADIES X LADYSTRIKERS
Immigration Ladies who have not been impressive this season would battle it out with second placed Ladystrikers this weekend in a live TV game. Ladystrikers, having won four matches so far would be aiming for all 3 points to get on level pegging with League leaders Hasaacas Ladies who are three points ahead. Immigration Ladies will seek to pounce hard on the Cape Coast-based opponent for all available points to avoid lingering in the relegation zone. On paper, the visitors look favourite but have a hard nut to crack against a side who are clipped at the bottom of the Southern Zone table and are looking for a win to survive.
SOCCER INTELLECTUALS X HASAACAS LADIES
Hasaacas Ladies will trek to Soccer Intellectuals at Ajumako Eduyaw Assasan Park in an uncompromising fixture. Surprisingly, Intellectuals bagged their first win of the season against rejuvenated Police Ladies on the road On Match Day 7 whereas Hasaacas rallied from two goals down to share the spoils with visiting Berry Ladies. Even though Hasaacas have had a patchy campaign so far, they are undoubtedly good away performers and stand as favorites for this encounter but would have to dig deep to secure the needed win. Soccer Intellectuals’ win over Police Ladies would be a morale booster to register the second win of the season and that makes the tie cagey. The last time the two sides met at the Adu Yaw Assasan Park, Hasaacas Ladies carried all the 3 points and will be looking at repeating another doze of it. .
BERRY LADIES X THUNDER QUEENS
Berry Ladies will play as hosts of Thunder Queens on Saturday. Both sides won a game against each other last season where interestingly, both wins were secured by the host teams. Berry Ladies beat Thunder Queens 3 – 1 whereas Thunder Queens inflicted a 1- 0 defeat on Berry Ladies in the reverse fixture. Both sides are in the race for the top spot as the first round of the WPL draws closer and with just two points apart on the table, Thunder Queens sit in third place on the log while Berry Ladies sit fourth. The last time Berry Ladies won a game was a week 5 fixture against struggling Immigration Ladies with the last two games resulting in a draw. Thunder Queens on the other hand only failed to grab the maximum points in their goalless stalemate against Immigration Ladies. Berry Ladies will be counting on Philomena Abakah who has three goals in three games while Thunder Queens will also hope Comfort Forkuo continues with her impressive performance that won her the player of the match against Immigration Ladies in match week 8. The game comes off at the Madina Astro Turf.
SEA LIONS X ARMY LADIES
Army Ladies have bounced back from successive defeats to a three game winning run. Travelling to the Nduom Stadium on Sunday to face a Sea Lions will be one to look out for as the hosts are coming from a 6:0 defeat to regional rivals, LadyStrikers. For a side who lies 9th position with just 5 points - Sea Lions will hope to capitalize on an opponent not quite at full strength to produce the needed result whereas Army Ladies will want to continue their recent impressive run.
FAITH LADIES X POLICE LADIES
The Dansoman Carl Reindolf Park is set to light up with yet another interesting fixture as Faith Ladies welcome Police Ladies on Match Day 8. Faith Ladies have been a little inconsistent in the early part of the campaign, but there have been signs in recent weeks that they are now beginning to hit their stride. Goalkeeper Anabel Bansah has added stability at the back, while Esther Yiadom has been in fine goal scoring form up front. The story is not different with the Police Ladies side that started the season on a high but seems to be dwindling in performance in their last two games without a win. Faith Ladies will be keen to keep tabs on the early pace-setters while Police Ladies will be eager to pick up the bit and pieces to churn out meaningful result.
