The Women’s Premier League makes a return this weekend after a two week break. The competition made way for the FA Cup which has reached the quarter final stage. Southern Zone leaders, Hasaacas Ladies aim to topple Police Ladies in a fierce contest while second Placed trek to Cape Coast as guest of LadyStrikers. Here is what to expect on match day 13 in the Southern Zone.
Hasaacas Ladies vs Police Ladies
Rejuvenated Police Ladies will play as guest of League leaders, Hasaacas Ladies in the penultimate match of Ghana's elite Women’s league at Gyandu Park. Both teams are yet to taste defeat in the second round of the league, winning 4 matches and drawing one each. Their encounter in the round 16 of the FA Cup travelled into penalty shootouts after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time. In the end Hasaacas prevailed and advanced to the Quarter final stage. The Sekondi-based side opened a 5 point gap at the apex of the table after thrashing struggling Sea Lions 4-0 in week 12. A win over Police Ladies would wrap up the title as champions of the Southern Zone with a game to spare. The Visitors are also eyeing a win to book a spot in the upcoming Super Cup and could cause a stir in Sekondi.
Immigration ladies vs. Sea Lions
This is certainly a battle of the survivors - Immigration ladies and Sea Lions have been a pale shadow of themselves in this seasons League going into match-day 13 at the Mcdan La Town Park. With two games to end the season, Immigration Ladies come into the game with a slight edge having secured a win over the visitors in the first round. The will heavily rely on the experience of Grace Adwoa Bayor and Rumanatu Tahiru. Immigration Ladies have won just a game and drawn two – giving them five points. Both teams are in dire need of a win but Immigration ladies appear more confident coming from two wins in the FA Cup.
Ladystrikers vs. Berry Ladies
Ladystrikers will face Berry Ladies in the penultimate clash of the Women's Premier League at the Robert Mensah Stadium. The ‘Strikers’ return to full action after losing 5:4 on penalties to Hasaacas Ladies in the round 32 of the FA Cup. They lie 4th in the Southern Zone log with 20 points – one point behind Police Ladies and a win may push them to the 3rd spot depending on the outcome of the clash between Police Ladies and Hasaacas Ladies. Berry Ladies who are closing in on Hasaacas Ladies for the top spot are however motivated ahead of the encounter after defeating Sea Lions 2:0 in the round 16 of the FA Cup. A victory for them may brighten their hopes of clinching the top spots depending on the outcome of the game between Police and Hasaacas. The week 6 clash between both sides ended 2-2. Gladys Amfobea who was recently adjudged the player of the month for April is expected to pair with Suzzy Dede Teye and Gifty Addai Boakye to torment the defence of the visitors.
Thunder Queens vs. Soccer Intellectuals
It was a phenomenal rear-guard display by Thunder Queens on match day 12 match which saw them pick up a slim win over Berry Ladies. They followed that up with two straight FA Cup victories. The team looks psyched-up to host Soccer Intellectuals on match day 13 at the Comms 8 School Park, Tema. Soccer Intellectuals have been one of the best teams on the road - who grind easily results playing outside the comfort of their home. They were eliminated in the round of 32 of the FA Cup – but still have the right focus for the two remaining matches in the League with a top four charge in mind. The last meeting between them ended 2-0 in favor Soccer Intellectuals.
