Wa All Stars ended their eight match winless run in the league by defeating Takyiman Eleven Wonders 1:0 in Wa to end the first round of the Zylofon Premier League on a high.
Maxwell Oppong scored the priceless goal to give All Stars the much needed points, which gave them only their tenth point of the season out of a possible 45 in the first round.
Even though they are still firmly rooted at the bottom of the table, the win will give All Stars some temporary respite for All Stars during the break and a major boost when the second round resumes.
In Kumasi, Asante Kotoko gave their title chase a lifeline with a 2:1 win over Aduana Stars. Burkinabe Songne Yacouba Adams scored a brace for the Porcupine Warriors, while Sam Adams scored for the visitors, in the win which takes Kotoko to 4th on the table, and three points behind leaders Medeama, who have a game in hand.
Medeama rescued a late point in Cape Coast when they came from a goal down to draw 1:1 with Hearts of Oak. Aboubacar Traore scored for Hearts while Tahiru Awudu equalized for Medeama to maintain their grip on the top position with a game in hand.
Karela United continued with their impressive debut campaign in the top flight, with another victory at Anyinase, this time defeating Inter Allies 2:1. Abdul Ganiu Ismail and William Opoku Mensah were on target for Karela, while Paul Abanga scored for Inter Allies. The win has lifted the Premier League debutants to second place in a remarkable campaign so far.
Ashantigold, who also have a game in hand, have dropped to third after losing 1:0 to at Berekum Chelsea. Stephen Amankona was Chelsea’s hero as he grabbed the only goal of the match.
At the Nduom Stadium in Elmina, Sharks were held 1:1 by Liberty Professionals. Liberty opened the scoring through a Tamimu Muntari penalty and Yakubu Mohammed equalized for for Elmina Sharks to spread the points.
In the other game on Sunday, Bechem United came from a goal down to beat WAFA 2:1 in Bechem. Umar Basiru put the visitors ahead, but Hamza Mohammed equalized before star man, Hafiz Wontah Konkoni grabbed the winner for the home side,
At the Dawu Park on Saturday, Dreams FC and Ebusua Dwarfs settled for a 1:1 draw. Leonard Owusu scored for Dreams, while Michael Ohene Asamoah was on target for the visitors.
