Women’s Under-19 coach, Mumuni Gamel has praised the Black Princesses for getting their FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup qualifying campaign off a good start.
Ghana routed Guinea 4-0 in the first leg tie of the preliminary African qualifier at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra on Sunday.
With such an impressive scoreline, Gamel says it the beginning of good things to happen for his Black Princesses team, who won bronze at last year’s All-African Games.
“It is a good start and even though I thought they would be nervous, they took up the challenge and played according to our instructions,” Mumuni Gamel said in a post match interview.
Gamel argues that though his team were technically and tactics wise, better than the Guineans, they still need to work hard. The Black Princesses coach also extolled the team’s two strikers.
“In competitions of such nature, it is always difficult as we progress so we still have to do a lot more.”
“My two strikers were fabulous and when they continue like that I think they will go places,” the coach stated.
An aggregate win for the Black Princesses over the two-leg tie would hand them another tie with the winner of the Lesotho - Botswana game in the first round later in April.
There were eight games on Sunday as Africa’s qualifying campaign involving eight matches with 16 nations participating teams kicked off.
Africa has two slots at the World Cup to be hosted by Chile which comes up between December 30, 2008 to January 17, 2009.
