Ghana's hopes of salvaging a point in their opening Group D fixture at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup against Germany on Sunday did not work out.
The Black Maidens lost 2-1 to Germany in Baku.
Trailing by two first half goals inside the opening 20 minutes through Vivien Beil and Pauline Bremer, the Black Maidens came out fighting after the break as Jane Ayieyam pulled one back for Ghana.
Ayieyam's goal in the 80th minute provided the Black Maidens with enough confidence but their fight to get the equaliser failed as the European champions Germany held on to win at the Dalga Arena.
Mas-ud Didi Dramani's side must now recover in time for their next match against Uruguay, who lost 4-0 against China PR.
Ghana will play the South American nation on Wednesday. The top two finishers from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
