Black Meteors wrap up Egypt training tour with 4-1 win over Zamalek SC

The Black Meteors of Ghana have wrapped up their training tour in Egypt with a 4-1 win over Egyptian Club side Zamalek SC.

The National U23 team have been in Egypt since June 12 as they prepare for the TotalEnergies U23 African Cup of Nations which kicks off on Saturday June 24, 2023 in Morocco.

Emmanuel Yeboah hat-trick and Emmanuel Appau were Ghana’s goalscorers in Tuesday’s match which was played at the Zamalek Sports Complex.

Ghana shot into the lead just after 10 minutes with Emmanuel Yeboah slotting home to beat the Zamalek’s goalkeeper.

The Zamalek side which was made of some first team and reserve team players quickly rallied back and got the equalizer after five minutes.

Yeboah scored again on the 25th minute  to restore Ghana’s lead after a brilliant build up to the goal.

With about five minutes to the halftime break, Emmanuel got his hat-trick from a rebound before Emmanuel Appau added Ghana’s fourth on the day.

Goalkeeper Jordan Amissah pulled up a spectacular save after Zamalek were awarded a penalty just before the break.

The second half saw Coach Ibrahim Tanko making some substitutions with Aziz Dari, Randolf and Poku Waki all coming on in the second half.

Despite dominating the game in the second half, Ghana failed to add to the goal tally with the game ending 4-1 in favour of the Black Meteors.

The team is expected to leave its training base in Cairo on Wednesday and continue its preparations in Rabat, Morocco.

Ghana will take on Congo in our opening match of the competition on Sunday, June 25,2023 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The Black Meteors will then take on hosts Morocco in the second Group A game at the  same venue.

Ghana’s final group game will be against Guinea at the Grand Stade de Tanger.

Two best teams from Group A and B will advance to the semifinals stage of the competition.

Winner of the tournament and the two runner ups will qualify to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games Mens Soccer competition in Paris next year.
