Champion of Champions: Tarkwa MP, MCE, receive trophy ahead of epic final

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Hon. George Mireku Duker, and Municipal Chief Executive, Benjamin Kesse, received the Champion of Champions trophy on Friday August 30, 2024, ahead of the epic Cup match between FC Samartex 1996 and Nsoatreman FC.

The delegation from the GFA and representatives of the two finalists met the the MP at his residence in Tarkwa on the eve of the epic final at the state-of-the-art TnA Stadium.

Hon. George Mireku Duker welcomed the delegation and expressed his delight at the decision of the GFA to host the final in the mining town.

"It's with great joy to receive all of you here at home and I'm very happy about the decision to host this important Cup match here," Hon. George Mireku Duker, who doubles as Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, said."We are delighted with our new stadium and we hope it will benefit Ghana football in the end. Tarkwa is now the new home of Ghana football."

"We'll also offer any form of support to ensure a successful organisation of the Champion of Champions match."

Hon. Mireku Duker expressed his gratitude to the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, for his foresight, while backing him to do more for the sport.

"I want to use this opportunity to thank the President, Mr. Kurt Okraku for what he is doing to uplift our game. I really want to express my gratitude to him and the GFA and urge them to keep up the good work."

"We thank the GFA president for choosing Tarkwa as the venue. The people of Tarkwa love football and so I am confident a lot of fans will troop in to watch the match tomorrow."

FC Samartex General Manager, Edmund Ackah, General Manager of Nsoatreman FC, Eric Alagidede, Director of Competitions, Julius Emunah, and Senior Manager, Communications, at the Ghana Football Association, Patrick Akoto, were in attendance.

The game, which will traditionally usher in the new football season, will take place at the TNA Park in Tarkwa, with kick-off scheduled for 6 pm.

FC Samartex 1996 defied the odds to emerge winners of the Ghana Premier League after staging an incredible campaign.

For Nsoatreman FC, beating Bofoakwa Tano in the finals of the MTN FA Cup, was not only historic but also a statement of the determination that they had shown throughout the competition.

Both clubs are currently flying Ghana’s flag high in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, making this encounter a perfect prelude to what promises to be an exciting season.

The match will not only serve as a curtain-raiser for the 2024/25 season but also as a preparation for both clubs for the upcoming season, which starts on Friday September 6, 2024.

The TNA Park is expected to be filled with fans to witness what will surely to be a thrilling contest between two of Ghana’s finest football clubs.
