Congress appoints Appeals Committee Members

The GFA Congress, at its 30th Ordinary Session held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, unanimously approved the appointment of ten (10) persons to serve as members of the Appeals Committee.

The new Appeals Committee membership will serve for the next four (4) years starting immediately from the date of their appointment, August 27, 2024.

In all, six members from the previous Appeals Committee were retained. This includes Lawyer David Asumda, who now takes up the role of Chairperson while, new entrant, Lawyer Godwin Mensah Sackey assumes the role of Vice Chairperson of the Committee.

The other five members who were retained include Lawyer Eva Okyere, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, Abdul Azziz Musah, Lawyer Emmanuel Kwesi Opare-Wiredu and Frank Okyere Addo, who will all serve as members.

Other new members of the Appeals Committee are Lawyer Emmanuel Augustus Amissah, Lawyer Mark Achel and Lawyer Winfred Sola Aklamati.

The Executive Council, acting under Article 58 of the Statutes, submitted the proposed membership of the Committee to the Congress of the Ghana Football Association for approval under Article 32(2)(r) and 55(5) of the Statutes of the GFA.

The GFA Statutes under Article 58 (headed – Appeals Committee) provides as follows:

“1. The Appeals Committee shall be constituted by ten (10) members, five (5) of whom shall be empanelled to hear a given case.

  1. The Chairman of the Appeals Committee shall be a Justice of the Superior Court of judicature or a Legal Practitioner of not less than twelve (12) years standing at the Bar. The Vice-Chairman shall be a lawyer of at least twelve (12) years standing”.

The appointed members will serve the new term until August 26, 2028.
