Emmanuel Frimpong is happy to compete for a place in the Ghana team as he pushes for his Black Stars debut.

The Fulham midfielder has been called for his debut international match as Ghana resumes its qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup against Sudan.

The Black Stars meet up for their first training session on Tuesday in Accra ahead of Sunday's Group D game against the Nile Crocodiles at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

And Frimpong knows that the competition for places in Kwesi Appiah's team will be high for the forthcoming qualifier.

“I have got a chance to play that is why the manager brought be here,” said Frimpong after arriving Monday night in Accra.

“We have got some great midfielders and obviously it is going to take time for me to gel in. I am looking to take my chance and hopefully when I get my chance I can take it.”

Frimpong, who is thrilled to earn his first Ghana call up, is aware of the expectation that comes with pulling on the Ghana shirt but is not affected by it.

“I was very happy [about his first call up],” he said.

“Football is pressure but wherever I play there is pressure and hopefully I can take the pressure and see what I can do.”
