Dominic Oduro targets more opportunities with the Black Stars as he await to make his Ghana debut on Wednesday against Chile in a friendly.
The Chicago Fire striker make the list of 18 players announced by Goran Stevanovic over the weekend for the game in Philadelphia's PPL Park against the South American side, ranked 12th on the Fifa table.
A first call up is no passport for a regular place in the side reeling under the pressure of getting back to winning ways after their failure to win the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
“It’s really exciting for me,” Oduro said as he readies to show the form that saw him score 12 goals in the previous season and being named as the Chicago Fire’s Most Valuable Player.
“Being called upon is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time and it really feels like one of my dreams coming true.”
Oduro, 26, has insisted there is still a long way to go in the process at holding a regular place in the Black Stars, but he is more than happy to have got his first call up.
“I still have to work hard just to keep the calls coming,” he said.
The temporal break taken by lead striker Asamoah Gyan might offer Oduro a chance to play himself into contention as one of the options Ghana could count on.
He knows about the sport but will learn a great deal at the international level, very much aware how significant his debut can be.
“I don’t want this to be a one-time thing. I’m hoping I’ll go in and perform well and get called in for other upcoming games. I’m blessed to have this opportunity.”
