GPL W9 review: Ashgold match on, Kotoko deepen All Stars' woes

The Ghana Premier League continued over the weekend with match-day 9 fixtures, and leaders Ashantigold continued with their remarkable form, while Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways.

At the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Saturday, Ashantigold defeated Inter Allies 1:0 to register their 5th win of the season to consolidate their hold of the top spot. Roland Amouzou grabbed the only goal of the match to emerge the hero of the day.

In the Sunday fixtures, both Asante Kotoko and WAFA returned to winning ways with impressive away wins at Wa and Cape Coast respectively. Amos Frimpong and Frederick Boateng were on target as Kotoko defeated All Stars 2:0 in Wa to deepen the former champions' woes. All Stars are now bottom of the table with only 5 points bout of a possible 27.

In Cape Coast, WAFA, who had not won in 5 games stunned home side Ebusua Dwarfs 3:2 in a thrilling encounter. Solomon Gyesi and Osman Mohammed got the goals for Dwarfs and Richard Danso, Charles Boateng and Justice Amate Aaron we're in target for the visitors. The defeat leaves Dwarfs just a point above the relegation zone over Aduana Stars, who have 5 games in hand.

In Techiman Alex Asamoah scored the only goal of the match as Eleven Wonders defeated Meadeama 1-0, while Karela FC failed to beat Elmina Sharks at their fortress in Anyinase. The match ended in a goalless draw.

Accra Hearts of Oak's struggles continued with another home points dropped. They were held 1:1 by Bechem United in their moved home game to the Baba Yara Stadium.

Hafiz Wontah Konkoni opened the scoring for the visitors, but Patrick Razal saved the day for the Phobians with the equalizer.

The second game at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi between Berekum Chelsea and Liberty Professionals was called off at 0:0 due to a heavy downpour. The match will be replayed on Monday.

Also on Monday, Dreams FC will host Aduana Stars in the final match of week 9.
