Asamoah Gyan's service to Ghana knows no bounds after playing through pain to get the Black Stars' 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign on course.

The Ghana captain scored the opener in the 4-0 home win over Sudan on Sunday but did not last the entire game due to a recurring injury.

Gyan, who suffered a thigh problem on Thursday in the build-up to the qualifier against the Nile Crocodiles was willing to play through the pain barrier and is happy with the result.

“I had this injury in training but I had to sacrifice for the team. I felt a muscle and had to go out for someone,” Gyan said after the game.

“I am happy we won and I am willing to sacrifice for the team.”

Ghana entered the clash with Sudan, knowing that leaders, Zambia had dropped points in their early kick off with Lesotho which ended 1-1.

And that result allowed the Black Stars to pile on the pressure at the top as they have narrowed the gap to one point.

“It’s a great thing for us. We must now concentrate on the next game.

“Yeah, Zambia drew so it boosted our confidence. We came all out to win,” said the Ghana captain.

Ghana will travel away to Sudan for the reverse fixture when the qualifiers return in June.
