KGL U17 Colts: Benedict Afful scores four times as Western Region thrash Upper West 7-0 to advance to semis

Talented forward Benedict Afful scored four times as Western Region demolished Upper West Region 7-0 in their final Group B match on Sunday August 4, 2024, to secure qualification to the semi final of the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship.

Afful scored in the 9th, 16th, 45th and 65th minutes to become the first player to score four goals in a single match at the ongoing talent identification Championship at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram.

Striker Stephen Cobbinah also grabbed a brace, scoring in the 33rd and 42nd minute while midfielder Richard Otoo also scored in the 57th minute as Western Region delivered the biggest win in the Championship so far this year.

Four-goal hero Benedict Afful deservedly clinched the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Cosmos Amankwah's side have moved to the top of the table temporarily with eight points from four games.

The winner of the decisive final Group B match between Upper East and Eastern Region will join the Western show boys in the semi-finals.

The two teams are tied on six points ahead of their final Group clash. Kick off is 15:00 GMT(3pm local time).

The matches of the Championships are being telecast live to various platforms including the GFA Official Facebook page and Max TV.

The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.

The ten Regional Football Associations have selected the best U17 players from their Colts competitions to represent their regions in the Championship which is aimed at identifying, training and developing young talents for the national youth teams.
