KGL U17 Colts: Eastern and Western clash in epic Final

Eastern Region and Western Region go in search of glory when they meet in the final of the 2024 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship on Thursday August 8, 2024.

The two teams will square off in a thrilling contest at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence to wrap up the fourth edition of the talent identification Championship.

After 12 days of thrilling action featuring ten (10) football regions, we are down to the final two in what looks set to be a classic Championship final.

The two teams have showcased an exciting attacking brand of football at the youth Championship and will be determined to cap it off with a memorable win to clinch the trophy.

The final matchup makes for interesting reading as its pit two teams that have demonstrated tenacity and resilience to the reach the final.

It is also a repeat of their Group B clash where Eastern Region pulled the brakes on their opponent to pip them 1-0.

Western Region have enjoyed a remarkable run to the final, having already created history with the most goals scored in a single match since the inception of the Championship four years ago. They thumped Upper West 7-0 in their final Group B match.

In contrast, Eastern Region dragged themselves from the brink of elimination to reach the finals of the famous Championship.

Western Region kicked off their campaign with a resounding 3-0 win over Upper East Region, won 5-4 on penalties against  Greater Accra Region after 1-1 stalemate in regulation time, lost 1-0 to Eastern Region and subsequently hammered Upper West Region to finish top of  group B.

The Western show boys were at their utmost best when they rallied from behind to dispatch Northern Region 3-1 in the semi-finals.

Eastern Region recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Upper West Region in their opening match, lost by the same scoreline to the Greater Accra Region before securing  further wins against Western and Upper East Regions to top Group B.

They defied the odds to overcome an impressive Volta Region side 3-1 on penalties after the two teams shared the spoils in regulation time in the semi-finals.

Stephen Cobbinah and Benedict Afful have scored a combined 10 goals in five matches for Western Region and the duo will be pivotal for the side ahead of the final clash.

Francis Osei Owusu, Ebenezer Ahwoi, Clement Gyapong, Abdul Rafiu Alhassan, Dominic Arthur, Richard Otoo, Bernard Yankey and Isaac Yawson are available for Western Region.

Eastern Region can also rely on Amos Opoku, Solomon Tetteh, Sarh Kwame Alex, Boafo Benjamin, Isaac Aku-Tetteh, Shaibu Abubakar, Awinzo Meshack, David Nyarko and Kudomor Kaiza in what promises to be an exciting contest at Prampram.

The match will be broadcast live on various platforms including the GFA Official Facebook page and Max TV.

The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.

The famous Championship is aimed at identifying, training and developing young talents for the national youth teams.
