KGL U17 Colts: Eastern Region cruise into semis after 2-0 win over Upper East

Eastern Region cruised into the semi-finals of the 2024 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship after a 2-0 win over Upper East in a decisive Group B match on Sunday August 4.

Goals from Amos Opoku and Kpodo Henry Atsu were reward for Eastern Region as they held their verve to claim victory and finished top of Group B.

Opoku opened the scoring for Eastern Region will a superb strike just outside the box in the 26 minute before Henry Atsu put the icing on the cake in the 86th minute.

Upper East came into the decisive match with a lot of confidence. They started off good but rued two important missed chances early in the first half that would have brought their opponent under pressure.

However, Amos Opoku's strike on 26 minute killed off their confidence and resilience as they failed to recover from the first half blip.

Kpodo Henry Atsu also scored four minutes to regulation time to secure a semi-final berth for Eastern Region.

Eastern Region finished top of Group B with nine points from four games and will face off with Volta Region in Tuesday's second semi-final game at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

Northern Region will square off with Western Region in the first semi-final game on Tuesday August 6, 2024 in the talent identification Championship.

The Championship will go on a break on Monday August 5, 2024 to allow the four remaining teams to rest ahead of the semi-final showdown on Tuesday.

Eastern Region's Amos Opoku was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) as Upper East ended their campaign in the famous Championship.

The matches of the Championships are being telecast live to various platforms including the GFA Official Facebook page and Max TV.

The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.

The ten Regional Football Associations have selected the best U17 players from their Colts competitions to represent their regions in the Championship which is aimed at identifying, training and developing young talents for the national youth teams.
