KGL U17 Colts: Greater Accra bounce back, Western Region thump Upper East on Match Day 4

Greater Accra Region claimed a vital 1-0 win over Eastern Region to put their campaign back on track in the second Group B match of the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship on Monday July 29, 2024.

Young midfielder,  Nyenye Naziru Alhassan, drilled home a superb free kick at the edge of the 18-yard box in the 24th minute, to separate the two teams at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

Greater Accra Region failed to find their rhythm in the opening match of the talent identification Championship, losing 1-0 against Upper East Region.

However, Evans Adjei's youngsters bounced back in style to record their first win to put them back on track and revive their campaign despite having defender Jonathan Mensah Okai sent off for a second bookable offence.

Goal hero Nyenye Naziru Alhassan was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

In the second Group B match, a dominant Western Region side thumped  Upper East Region 3-0 in a highly entertaining match at Prampram.

Stephen Cobbinah opened the scoring for Western Region in the 64th minute before defender Abdul Rafiu Alhassan got the second from a swift counter-attack.

Midfielder Richard Otoo put the icing on the cake with third goal from the spot kick in the 90th minute to seal an impressive win for the Western show boys.

Ebenezer Ahwoi  was crowned the Most Valuable Player after a commanding performance at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

The Championship fixtures on Tuesday July 30, 2024, will see Ashanti Region slugging it out with Northern Region at  10am local before Central Region take on Brong Ahafo Region at 14:00GMT (2pm local time).

The matches of the Championships is being telecast live to various platforms including the GFA App, GFA Official Facebook page and Max TV.

The 12-day Championship, aimed at identifying, training and developing young talented teenagers for Ghana's youth national teams, runs till Thursday August 8, 2024.

The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.
