Referees from the Northern Sector have successfully completed the mandatory fitness assessment in Techiman as preparations intensify for the 2026/27 football season.
The exercise forms part of the Association's comprehensive pre-season evaluation programme designed to ensure that match officials meet the physical demands required to officiate in domestic competitions.
The participants, drawn from the Northern, Upper East, Upper West and Bono Regions, underwent a series of rigorous fitness tests following the successful completion of their written examinations earlier in the assessment process.
The fitness examination is a key requirement for all referees seeking appointments for the new season and is intended to assess their endurance, speed and overall physical readiness to effectively manage matches at the highest level.
The assessments are part of a broader qualification process that also includes technical evaluations and other mandatory requirements to ensure only competent and fully prepared officials are selected for the upcoming football campaign.
The Association has continued to prioritise referee development through regular education, assessments and capacity-building programmes aimed at improving the quality and consistency of officiating across all competitions.
The successful completion of the fitness test marks another important milestone for the Northern Sector referees as they move closer to securing appointments for the 2026/27 season.
Similar assessment exercises are being conducted across the country as the GFA Referees Department finalises its pool of qualified match officials for the new football season.
