Stephen Amankonah is expected to lead Berekum Chelsea’s charge in the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup as they face rivals Bechem United in the quarter-final on Saturday. The Brong Ahafo neighbours are known for their rivalry in the Ghana Premier League as this game serves as opportunity to rekindle their quest for supremacy in the Cup competition.
Berekum Chelsea got off to an explosive start as they defeated lower-tier side Boresa FC 6-0 at the Golden City Park. The Bibires followed up with victory over Debibi United before hammering Northern City 4-0 in the Round of 16.
Stephen Amankona is one of the best players in the League and he is expected to lead the lines for the Berekum lads. Amankonah has scored 10 goals in the Ghana Premier League and aims to translate his form in the Premier League to the MTN FA Cup. Other top players in the squad include Emmanuel Sarpong, Mezack Afriyie, Augustine Henneh and Collins Ameyaw. Forward Jonag Attuquaye has also rejoined the side after an unsuccessful stint in Latvia where he featured for FK Auda.
Bechem United have played in two MTN FA Cup finals in the last 10 years – following a 2-1 win over Okwahu United in the 2015/16 final in Cape Coast. The Hunters played in another final in 2022 but lost 2-1 to Accra Hearts of Oak despite taking a first lead through Emmanuel Avornyo.
They eliminated Techiman Liberty Youth, Rain Masters FC and Premier League side Nations FC to get to the Quarter-final and aim to devour Berekum Chelsea to reach yet another semifinal.
This fixture will kick off at 7pm at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
