The Technical Directorate of the Ghana Football Association(GFA), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), has launched the Football ‘4’Girls project in Saltpond, Central Region.

The Football ’4’ Girls initiative started in 2022 and forms part of the GFA's developmental program to create a clear pathway for talented young players to progress whilst also providing an avenue to engage young girls from age 6-12 to develop their passion and skills.

In all, 285 basic school girls from five schools namely, Fort Amsterdam Basic School, Saltpond Beach Road M/A Basic School, Saltpond Catholic Girls Basic School, Saltpond Methodist 'A' Basic School and Saltpond Lower Town Basic School were present at the launch.

The GFA was represented by the Central RFA Chairman, Robert Otieku Duncan, and his Executives as well as the GFA's Head of Women’s Football Development, Jennifer Amankwa Sarpong. The schools were also represented by their Municipal Physical Education Coordinators, teachers, guardians and guests from the Saltpond community to ensure a successful launch of the project.

The young girls were educated on the misconceptions of playing football, proper ways of involving themselves in the game and the importance of academic discipline.

Footballs,T-shirts and other souvenirs were given to the schools present to be used at their physical education sessions to promote Football 4 Girls projects.

The GFA, in its quest to properly structure Women’s football development, has recently expanded the youth national teams to provide avenues for wider participation.

The GFA Elite Soccer Academy has also been established to teach selected footballers the rudiments of the game from an early age and also inculcate in them the key elements of Ghana's Football DNA.

The GFA is also training many more Coaches in the Women's game so as to further enhance its quality.

The Football ‘4’ Girls project (Schools project) is part of the Ghana Football Women’s Strategy implementation and aims at ensuring that young girls from diverse backgrounds in Ghana will have equitable access to Football.
