Okwawu United have booked their place in the final of the 2024 Division One League (DOL) Super Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Techiman Heroes in the first semi-final clash. The match, played on Thursday at the Nana Kronamansah Park, was a tightly contested affair, with Prince Asare's early strike proving to be the decisive moment.
The game got off to an intense start, with Okwawu United quickly asserting their dominance. They broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Prince Asare found the back of the net, giving Okwawu United the lead. The early goal put Techiman Heroes on the back foot, as Okwawu United continued to press forward.
Okwawu United had a golden opportunity to double their lead before halftime when they were awarded a penalty. However, Samuel Obeng, who had been instrumental throughout the tournament, failed to convert from the spot, missing a chance to give his side a more comfortable lead.
The second half saw Techiman Heroes pushing for an equalizer, with their captain, Abdul Ganiyu, leading by example. The skipper's defensive prowess and ability to motivate his team were evident, as Techiman Heroes created several chances but were unable to break down the resilient Okwawu United defense.
Both teams fought valiantly, but neither could find the back of the net in the second half. The match ended 1-0 in favour of Okwawu United, who will now advance to the final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between Young Apostles and Vision FC.
Despite being on the losing side, Techiman Heroes' captain, Abdul Ganiyu, was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance. Ganiyu's leadership and defensive solidity were crucial in keeping his team in the game, even as they trailed for the majority of the match.
Okwawu United’s victory sets the stage for an exciting final on Sunday, as they look to cap off their impressive Super Cup campaign with the trophy. For Techiman Heroes, the focus will now shift to the 3rd place match, where they will seek to end their tournament on a high note.
