The Black Satellites, Ghana's national U20 team, arrived in Cairo on Saturday, April 19, 2025, for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) being hosted by Egypt. The team touched down at approximately 10 pm local time and quickly and seamlessly settled into the Jewel Plaza Hotel, located in New Cairo.

Led by Management Committee Chairman and GFA Executive Council member, Alhaji Abu-Hassan Mahamadu, the 29-member delegation that made the trip consists of 16 players and 13 officials. Six additional players from overseas clubs are expected to join the team, bolstering their chances of success as they gear up for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off on April 27 and runs until May 18, 2025.

The team's primary goal is to qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. Ghana has a rich history in African youth football, having won the U-20 AFCON four times (1993, 1999, 2009, and 2021) and becoming the first African team to lift the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2009.

Ghana has been drawn in Group C and will face strong opposition from defending champions, Senegal, who are also in the group. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Central African Republic make up the rest of the group.

The team will spend another week training in Cairo before the tournament begins. Prior to departing for Egypt, the team wrapped up a two-week training camp in Accra with a 2-0 win over local club side Inter Allies. The squad also participated in a three-nation tournament in Rabat, Morocco, to fine-tune their tactics and assess player readiness.

Ghana begins the quest for continental glory by facing DRC in our opening match of the tournament on May 2, 2025.

Managed by Coach Desmond Ofei, the team is determined to make a strong impression in the tournament and qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

The 13-nation tournament will run from April 27 to May 18, 2025.
